In 2016, Joris got the opportunity to work as a location sound mixer for his good friend and director Karel Van Mileghem's project: a documentary about New Orleans' street musicians. Even though he had no background in location sound yet, a month later he was standing in the middle of the French Quarter with a boom mic in his hands.

This documentary eventually evolved into a documentary serie for Belgian TV (Canvas), called 'Paradise City', in which they dwelled disaster-stricken cities around the world such as Hiroshima, Belfast, Port-au-Prince, Detroit, New Orleans and Kigali in search of the meaning of music for the recovery of those communities.

And it was the start of a new passion and a career as location sound mixer.

After years of combining it with his job as a percussion teacher, he became a full time freelance sound engineer in 2022.
